Steven M. Topper, MD

Dr. Steven Topper is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He obtained his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, School of Medicine, at the National Institute for Health in Washington D.C. He completed an Internship in Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio Texas. He then served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force where he held the position, Chief Medical Officer, Hyperbaric Medicine Division, at the School of Aerospace Medicine. His team performed critical research relative to Hyperbaric Medicine for NASA and the Space Shuttle Program. He then went on to complete an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, followed by a Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at the "World Renown" Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. In 2000 Dr. Topper was selected from a competitive field of his peers as an International Traveling Fellow of both the American Orthopaedic Association and the Japanese Orthopeadic Association. In 2005 Dr. Topper was elected as a "Young Leader" of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand where he has served on a number of committees. After his Service to our country, Dr. Topper then served as Chief of Hand Surgery, Orthopeadic Surgery residency program director, Hand Surgery Fellowship Co-Director, Congenital Hand Surgery Consultant (Portland Shriner’s Hospital) at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland Oregon. He founded the Colorado Hand Center in Colorado Springs Colorado in 2001.

Dr. Topper is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and also has a certificate of added qualification in Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the ASSH, AAHS, AOOS and the International Societys for Surgery of the Hand. He served on the editorial board of the "Year book of Hand Surgery" for a number of years. He is currently a reviewer for the "Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery" and is on the editorial boards of “Orthopaedic Knowledge Online” and the Journal "Hand". Dr. Topper is a delegate of the Colorado Medical Society and one of the founding members of the Rocky Mountain Shoulder Elbow Society. Dr. Topper is also a Hand Surgery consultant to the US Olympic Training Center located in Colorado Springs Colorado.
